Ride the Rockies 2016 – Day 2

Today is the biggest day of the ride and includes the 4,000 foot climb up Independence Pass. We started riding at 6am. We got an early start because the chance of rain was above 50% after noon. It was a little chilly at the start but warmed up quickly. The scenery was awesome.

I did not attach my GoPro today because of the chance of rain but here is a video I made with my phone of the summit at independence pass.

The decent was fast and bumpy So we had to apply lots of brakes. We ended up not eating much and Kim hit the wall and had to sag at mile 52. It was a difficult decision for her to make but it was probably the right one because there was a difficult climb to one last summit coming up.

I continued on and finished the 85 mile ride with and average of 12 miles per hour. The sky’s looked threating but it didn’t rain till after the ride. The ride finished at Copper Mountain Resort.
