Today was another perfect biking day. It started out cool 36 degrees and warmed up quickly as we dropped in elevation from just under 10,000 feet to 8,000.
We left Copper Mountain resort on a bike path that went along a stream and after about 10 miles it emptied into a small lake and it was just gorgeous.
We continued going down for the first 30 miles most of it being along bike paths.
At mile 30 we started our major climb of the day which was seventeen hundred feet over 5 miles. The Views were great.
Attached is a 360 video at the rest stop on Ute Pass
Near the top of the pass there was a biker down getting medical attention. Right after that I saw a large black bear crossing the pavement in front of me. After a few miles the pavement turned to a hard pack dirt road for about 13 miles. I kept my max speeds on the dirt sections to the low 30’s.
The dirt road wasn’t bad but I was happy to get back on pavement.
We then started riding in Byers Canyon in Hot Sulfur Springs which was beautiful.
We made our own rest stop with milk shakes from a local ice cream stand.
We then pushed on to the final rest stop before Grand Lake.
Tomorrow will be a very scenic day riding on trail ridge road thru Rocky Mountain Park.
