Bicycling Across America 2017 – Day 13 – Old Route 66

We started the day with a good breakfast in the lobby of the Hampton Inn.

Today’s ride from Amarillo to Shamrock, Texas was 93 miles with 1467 feet of climb. My average was a lot slower today at 15.7mph because we had a cross wind instead of yesterday’s tailwind.

A lot of today’s ride was on the old Route 66 route. Some of the ride was on freeways but most on frontage roads that were a little rough. None of the ice cream gang now being renamed Beauty and the beasts got flats today.

Lots of wind farms on today’s ride. Energy is a big part of Texas economy.

The ice cream Gang having ice cream at the end of the ride. Today is an ice cream social day so we will be back at DQ at 7pm for seconds.

Gary’s from Washington comments on today’s ride are as folllow.
