Bicycling Across America 2017 – Day 20 – Crossing the Mississippi River

Today’s ride was 108 miles with 900 feet of climb.  Today’s average speed was only 14.9mph because the headwinds slowed us down.  This was suppose to be an easier day but it wasn’t.

For the first 18 miles the scenery was similar to the last two days with good roads, roller and tree lined roads. I did notice that there was more oak trees than pine trees today.

After 18 miles the land turned flat and change to cotton farms.

Crossing the mighty Mississippi River was the high point  of the day.

After we crossed the Mississippi a person passed us in a truck and gave us bottles of water. Yesterday we had a person wave at us and he followed us up a hill with his flashers on. I talked to him at the next corner  he said he rode his bike across the country twice when he was younger and he said the drivers here were not good they will pass you going 70 and only miss you by a foot or two. Two days ago when I had my last flat tire I had 3 different people Stop to ask if I needed any help.
